General Information

Location: The Faculty of Biology, the Baltic Campus of the University of Gdańsk >>Baltic Campus 
The Baltic Campus, located in Gdańsk-Oliwa, is the scientific, teaching and student centre of the Tri-City (Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia). The building of a new Faculty of Biology will offer an excellent venue for our meeting.

Language: The official language of the conference will be English.

Insurance: The organizers of the Conference recommend that participants arrange their own insurance for health, travel and possessions. The organisers will not accept any liability for personal injury or for loss of, or damage to, property.


Transportation in Gdańsk: Transport between town and airport. Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport - located 15 km from the city centre, with flights to many cities in Europe. From the airport, take a taxi, bus No 110 to the railway PKP/SKM station "Gdansk Wrzeszcz", or bus No 210 to the railway (PKP/SKM) station "Gdansk Glowny", where you can change for a bus/tram/train (SKM) to your hotel or university campus.

The public transportation: Trams and buses - tickets are valid for both trams and buses; tickets are available from the driver. Be sure to stamp your ticket in the validating machine once on board the bus/tram ZTM (The Municipal Transport Management Board): >>ztm

Ticket price (bus/tram): normal tickets 2.50 zl. There is a 24-hour ticket (10 zł) valid on all trams during the day and on night buses.

SKM suburban trains: In addition to the local buses and trams, the Tri-City (Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia) has trains that connect these cities and the surrounding suburbs. Most of the stations are connected to the main (PKP) stations and they run about every fifteen minutes. You must buy (from a machine or from the ticket booth at the station) a ticket for your journey BEFORE you board the train and you must VALIDATE the ticket by placing it face down in the slot of one of the yellow boxes (validating machines) before you go onto the platform SKM - Fast Urban Railway: >>skm

Clothing and weather: Gdańsk has a temperate oceanic climate. At the beginning of September the weather is usually warm (ca. 12-20°C/53-68 °F) with lots of sunshine during the days. Nevertheless, storms may occur during late summer.

Bank and currency exchange: The currency is the Polish zloty (PLN). The organizers recommend that participants exchange money only in authorized money exchange offices and retain all exchange receipts.

Electricity: Electricity in Poland is 230 Volts AC. If you travel to Poland with a device that does not accept 230 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter. European-style two-pin plugs are used.
